Humidity and sailing?

The humidity has hit Macau. We're back to the 80-95% humidity and choking midday 30 degree sunshine days. The cockroaches are thriving, some weeks ago I was walking 2 blocks away from my apartment and I lost count of the amount of cockroaches skittering away from me as I pass a dark back alley which seemed, upon a hasted inspection, to be where the nearby restaurant kept its refuse bins.

Nevertheless, I like it. Last year upon arrival in Macau it dawned on me how much I had grown accustomed to this climate, and how 8 years of british weather had taken its toll. Winter was the toughest and I equally lost count of the amount of sore throats and common colds, like those cockroaches...

So anyways last weekend I participated in my first keel boat sailing competition on the lovely "Katie J", a 49 year old Van der Stadt. She sailed beautifully into 3rd place (out of 9 competitors in division 2) in 2 legged classic boat rally organized by the Aberdeen Boat Club in Hong Kong. It was a thrilling experience!

Having completed the RYA Competent Crew course 2 weeks ago and spending most of my weekends sailing Topaz dinghies with MYSA (Macau Yacht Sailing Academy), I'm getting much needed experience to one day fulfilling my dream of crossing either the Atlantic or the Pacific ocean (or both!).

And that's that...
